Historic Renovation in Providence, RI
Historic Renovation
TJ’s was specifically chosen as the HVAC mechanical contractor for the renovation of this historic home on the East Side of Providence, RI. The home boasts 12,000 square feet of living space and has a beautiful view overlooking the state house. Our challenge was to deliver the ultimate comfort system to the homeowners, without compromising the home’s historic integrity. Our solution was a design-build alternative energy system for both heating and cooling, providing a purely comfortable living environment, year-round.

Historic Home Exterior
Geothermal Energy
The heating and cooling source for the home was geothermal energy, using three Bosch, 6-ton, two-stage, water-to-water heat pumps and five 550-foot vertical bore wells. The geothermal system was designed so that nothing was visible outside of the home. A Viessmann Vitodens 200 gas-fired condensing boiler was installed for backup heat and domestic hot water.
A Viega radiant heat system was installed in all of the bathrooms in the home, as well as the entire first floor. There were seven zones of hydro-air using chilled water for cooling and 120-degree design water temperature for they hydro air heating system. All of the sheet metal was custom designed to fit into the home without compromising the integrity of the home or it’s elegance.
Indoor Air Quality
To ensure the highest indoor air quality, TJ’s installed a Zehnder Comfo System to constantly change the air in the home. Additionally, the radon removal system for this home was incorporated into the Zehnder Comfo System. This system is one of the most effective systems on the market, constantly recirculating the air in the home so that each room is completely balanced and comfortable. There is also a wall-mounted control that will allow the manual increase of airflow if needed.
Design Build
The entire HVAC system for this historic home was design-build by TJ’s and all piping and wiring schematics for the historic renovation were completed by TJ’s. The various elements incorporated into this home combine to offer the homeowners truly exceptional comfort.
