January 31, 2011 Importance of Permits and Inspections

Recently, TJ’s has been called out to various homes for service requests.  When we arrived, we found improper and even dangerous installations of various mechanical systems.  We consider it of the up-most importance to make our customers comfortable and keep them safe by installing mechanical systems properly, according to manufacturer’s specifications, and by following the MA State Plumbing and Gas codes.

These codes are in effect to protect homeowner’s from a variety of unsafe conditions.  All plumbing and gas work should be in compliance with state codes and have the proper permits pulled.  Inspections by licensed plumbing and gas inspectors are required following each installation.  And for good reason.

Customers beware…

  • Check to be sure that your contractor is a licensed professional in good standing in your state.
  • Be sure permits are going to be pulled.
  • Follow up that proper inspections are obtained when your project is complete.
  • Ask questions…and be sure your contractor can answer all of your questions.
  • Be sure your contractor services the equipment he installs.
  • Don’t let your contractor leave without fully understanding how your system operates.
  • Check references.
  • If a low price seems too good to be true…it probably is.
